Absolutely fabulous primitive antique grain sifter with original (or early) barn red paint. Made from overlapping bentwood bands secured by old nails and wire with a hand-forged metal handle. Heavy duty sifter screen is in great shape with no broken areas. Probably made in the 1800s, this is a real farm tool that was used for separating grain. In addition to the handle, hand-forged hooks are attached to each side of the sifter, probably to hang it over a barrel. Measures 13.5 inches in diameter and sides are 5 inches high. Purchased in Quebec at the Lachute Farmers Market where farm fresh antiques are offered for sale every Tuesday during the summer (highly recommended!) Lovely primitive wall decor for a cabin kitchen, and great barn red color!
