This gorgeous large vintage white birch canoe is a real show-stopper, and it was one of the most popular items at the Adirondack antique auction where we bought it. Believe it or not, this decorative bark canoe measures over 34 inches long, and is by far the largest birch canoe we have ever seen. Definitely handmade, but probably not terribly old, possibly made in the 1980s or 90s. Exquisitely detailed, with wood splint “ribs” inside to hold its shape, and five cross bars tied with rawhide to the frame. Incredibly, the 3-piece birch bark shell is in perfect shape with no breaks, cracks or missing pieces. The black stripes painted on each side add to its charm. Measures 34 inches long by 9 inches wide at the widest point. Stands 4 inches high in the center and 7 inches high at the ends, which curve up. Separate hand-carved paddle also included. Can’t imagine a more beautiful or authentic decorative item for a rustic fireplace mantle! Please note: Due to weight or size this item will incur additional shipping costs. Arrangements to be made upon purchase.
