Rough bark canoes like this one are very collectible and hard to find. Made from elm bark, this one is not terribly old, probably made in the 1970s or 80s. This medium-size vintage bark canoe is lashed together all around the top and ends with raffia and interestingly, has braided raffia trim. The inside is smooth shaped wood. An oval wood frame keeps the canoe shape. Created out of one large piece of elm bark (free of seams), the canoe is cracked along the center bottom. (Please see photos 4 & 5.) Measures 20″ long and 7.5″ wide at widest point, 5″ high at ends. In good vintage shape, with a few small chips to the bark on the ends and a few breaks to the raffia trim. Rounded bottom means the canoe leans slightly to one side, but almost stands straight up. We also have a similar large bark canoe featured in a separate listing. One or both would make a beautiful display in a rustic cabin, cottage or log home.
