This is absolutely my favorite find from our summer trip through Massachusetts, Maine, New Brunswick and Quebec. We attended a huge annual flea market in Sussex, New Brunswick, where we found some fabulous vintage items. This art piece was made by an artist in Prince Edward Island using the end piece of an old lobster trap, with rusty nails around the frame. Inside the frame is a gorgeous hand painted curlew sandpiper in brown, tan, black and white, with a super long beak and glass eyes. (A few of the curiously long-billed curlew sandpipers turn up on the Atlantic Coast of Canada every year.) The curlew is made of wood in two pieces, body and head and neck. We think it is hand carved, but can’t be sure. The piece is signed by the artist with the initials “CW,” titled “Shorebird” and labeled “P.E.I.” Measures 24 inches wide by 14 inches high by 2 inches deep. A piece of green and white marine cord it attached to the top for hanging. We’d venture to say there is no better or more beautiful art piece for a cabin, cottage or lake home.
