Product Description

Do you actually know what a fishing creel is used for? According to Wikipedia, a creel is designed to function as an evaporative cooler when lined with moss and dipped into the creek to keep the catch chilled. Caught fish are inserted through the slot in the top, which is held in place by a small leather strap.

This is a wonderful decorative example of a vintage wicker fishing creel, made in the 1930s with beautiful leather trim and a gorgeous weathered patina. No breakage in the basket, through the top does not lie flat. Buckle and leather insert are intact, but the shoulder strap seems to have been removed and replaced with a green woven cloth strap. Does not take away from its beauty. An identification number is written on the strap. Creel measures 14.5″ long by 6.5″ high and 6.5″ wide.

Cool feature is a measuring ruler embossed into the leather trim in the top. This will make a beautiful rustic display piece and a great container for a floral arrangement.
