I’d never heard of a powder flask before, but we went to an antique auction where lots of guns were being sold and there they were. Powder flasks were portable containers of gun powder that were used when guns were muzzle-loading. We believe this is a genuine mid-nineteenth century piece because it was in the collection of a long-time gun collector. It is made of copper with brass fittings and has an intricate engraved hunting scene with a hunting dog, tree, mountains, foliage and hunter with gun on his shoulder on both sides. Spring mechanism still works. Measures 7.75 inches tall by 3.5 inches wide at bottom. Small ring on side to hang. Beautiful decorative piece for a rustic home.
