Charming vintage original deer oil painting depicting a young male and female deer. Painted on canvas nailed to a wood stretcher frame, the primitive painting features a young male deer with sprouting antlers and a beautiful doe nibbling on a budding branch. To us it is the epitome of youth, innocence and spring. The painting is quite old and discolored, which we think only adds to its charm. The deer are pictured in close-up, with only the heads and shoulders visible. There is a green and brown woodland area on the left with new foliage. Interestingly, there is a third deer hidden in this area that is lying down and facing away from the artist. Behind the central deer is the silhouette of light brown hills and a blue grey sky. The painting measures 20 inches wide by 26 inches high. This painting has been repaired, and the patches are visible on the back side. (Please see last photo.) There were obviously some small tears and holes in the canvas which now appear on the front as slight indentations. There is no visible paint loss in the repair areas. There are also some minor scuffs to the paint, but nothing significant. This lovely painting is probably “cottage art” created by an amateur painter at a cabin getaway. No visible signature. Absolutely perfect primitive art for a rustic home.
