Cabin Fever

100_2378I’m not usually one to complain, but the lake is NOT supposed to look like this on March 30.

We got another 4 – 5 inches of snow last night, and the lake is still completely frozen.  I heard a report yesterday that there are 1,800 square miles of ice on Lake Erie, seven times the normal amount, and it’s 42 inches thick near Buffalo! Now that is crazy.

If you have cabin fever like us, you might want to pick-up a book about log cabin living and rustic interiors for inspiration.  In addition to Ann Stillman O’Leary’s Adirondack Style, which has been our guidebook, check out Cabin Fever by Rachel Carley, another great resource on the history of the rustic life, rooted in the traditions of the great outdoors.  (Even if it’s not very pleasant to be out of doors right now!)

Both books are available at

As for me, I’ll be dreaming of daffodils while warming up by the fire.  Snowshoes anyone?  I’ll be adding a vintage pair to the Shop today, along with Hudson Bay style wool blankets from L.L. Bean.  Brrrr.
