We couldn’t resist this antique hand blown glass gum pot from Australia, it just has such a charming look and the satiny yet iridescent turquoise glass is absolutely gorgeous. Apparently gum pots were used in Australia for glue, or possibly as ink wells, beginning around 1830. This one is embossed with Angus & Co Gum and we’re told it was hand blown into a mold, with a shear top, which means it was broken off the glass pipe and has a rough edge. Its conical shape makes it perfect for use as a bud vase. The lovely liquid sea green color is due to the natural iron in the sand used to make glass in the 1800s. It is rare to see this color made after 1900. The gum pot measures 3 inches high and 2.5 inches across the base. Just an enchanting piece of antique glass with a great story to tell!
