This beautiful piece of clear crystal beadwork with red needlepoint accents is a bit of a mystery. The antique auctioneer where we bought it called it a tea cozy, but none of us really know what its actual purpose was. We’re also not sure if it was made by a native artisan (possibly Iroquois), or a Victorian needle artist. One thing is for sure, it is a beautiful decorative accessory for a rustic home. The entire main square is in perfect shape, and the border beading has only a few small loose areas. It measures 7.5 inches by 7.5 inches without the beaded fringe, though it is not quite square. We would use it as a decorative element on a coffee or other table and let the speculation begin!
