This is the most gorgeous vintage Beacon blanket we have ever seen! Made of 85% wool and 15% cotton, the reversible blanket has a lovely Indian design in cream, periwinkle blue, dusty rose and purple, with the primary color being periwinkle blue on one side and cream on the other. It retains its original tag with the Beacon Blankets Make Warm Friends tagline. Quite large, it measures approximately 80 by 90 inches, double bed size. The blanket is soft and thick, and the label instructs that it is Dry Clean Only. Condition is excellent. The blanket does not appear to ever have been used or cleaned. There are no holes, rips, stains, odors or pilling. There is a small red mark on one corner, and there are several moth bites or missed stitches, but they do not go through (please see last two photos). The cream blanket stitching is intact along two edges, with no stitches missing. In the 1930s, Beacon was the largest blanket manufacturer in the world. Based in North Carolina, they employed unique jacquard looms that permitted the weavers to use up to four colors in their blanket designs. They developed designs that were influenced by the Navajo patterned camp blankets of the west. Beacon Blankets are difficult to date, and we haven’t been able to estimate its age yet, though we do know it is vintage. As rare as hen’s teeth, unused Beacon Blankets like this one are highly collectible. This one, with its lovely design and colors, would make a dramatic impact in the guest bedroom of a cabin, cottage or rustic home. Plus, it will keep you cozy and warm all winter long!
