This pair of authentic vintage lobster buoys were hand carved in Nova Scotia and are 50 to 60 years old. Tied to underwater lobster traps, the wood buoys would float so fishermen could find their catch. Each fisherman painted his lobster buoys in distinct colors and patterns so he could identify them. Wood buoys have been outlawed, and are now highly collectible as decorative items. Many reproductions are being made, but these are genuine. We love the original and very chippy paint that makes them authentic. The taller buoy is 15 inches high and is painted red and black. The other buoy is slightly shorter at 13 inches high and is painted white with a yellow stripe. It has a loop of marine rope attached to the hole in the top. Both are well-used and very worn and have cracks in the wood. Fantastic lake or beach house decor.
