We’re not exactly sure what this antique brass ornament was used for. It may be have been a desk accessory, or part of a ladies’ dressing table or even part of an altar. All we know is that it is rare and unusual and an absolutely lovely piece of decorative brass. Features a center ridged pedestal with a round ball atop gently sloping stepped sides, all finely engraved with a floral motif. Two decorative rosettes, one on either end, are colored pinky red. Very heavy, the piece measures 10.5 inches wide by 5 inches high and is 2.75 inches deep at the widest point. Some discoloration around the top ornament and rosettes. Has the look of something made in India, though we don’t see any markings on it. If anyone knows what this is, please let us know! In the meantime, it is a gorgeous decorative antique object for a shelf or mantel.
